This one goes out to Cari, who has a phobia of Bees.
A terrible tail of woe caught on camera. One man stops the Bee menace to his swing set with the use of some paint thinner and gasoline. Blessed are the flammables that protect us from this scourge.

I have been pretty sick, even so far as having to goto the doctors the day after Xmas to find out if I needed a splenectomy or triple nasal bypass. However writing my obituary may be premature. After a couple of prescriptions and a few days of bed rest the doctors are giving me a 50% chance of survival.
The slug inside-out was pure genius. I get grossed out just trying to cough one up.
p.s.
Here’s some good stuff about slugs.
Dept Of Poopy Heads December 28, 2006
Posted by Al Castle in : gnash-teeth, Castle , 4commentsSo I receive a Happy Birthday letter from the Washington Department of Licensing reminding me that I need to renew. They also provided an authorization number informing me I can renew online at dol.wa.gov and pay via credit card.
Schweet. Or so I think to myself.
The website states:
You may be eligible to renew online if:
- Your last renewal was done in person
- You were issued a license on or after September 1, 2001
- You have received a renewal notice in the mail, with an
online authorization number- You have a valid MasterCard or Visa to pay the fee
After supplying the last 5 digits of my SSN#, my drivers license # and the authorization number, I’m presented with a series of yes/no questions and finally when clicking submit again I’m told that I’m going to have to come in. No other explanation, I’ve already been pre-screened simply by having recieved this letter.
Is it a browser issue, there were no errors but I am using Firefox and they are an MS .Net shop.
I hate the DOL.

Home Remodel - Day 4 December 27, 2006
Posted by Al Castle in : Squirrels, gnash-teeth, Castle , 1 comment so farThe construction crew showed up bright and early this morning. (Which normally wouldn’t be bad as I’d be on my way out the door to work. Alas I’ve been suffering from a bronchial infection this holiday season and despite being my usual chipper self have been bed ridden for a good portion of it.)
The unfinished basement doesn’t have any insulation and they turned up their radio pretty loud. Normally I’d get up and make a fuss, but I lost my voice a couple days ago and it’s still pretty hoarse.
Oh but wait it gets better, they have the radio on some sort of soft oldies rock from the 80’s. And that’s not all, just to make sure I go completely insane the youngest contractor fancies himself a singer.
“I died in your arms tonight….it must have been something you said….”
Now their arguing over the song, the younger one likes it, the older one not so much. All the while air compressors and hammering are creating a nice auditory backdrop.
Update 11:01AM: Voice cracking on high note - “Living like a refugee….”

Cheese Spa December 23, 2006
Posted by Al Castle in : Squirrels, Segway , 1 comment so farI know it sounds twisted, but really it’s just my phonetic catchy title for this post about Davids new business venture Chispa. And actually that’s not even phonetically accurate, but it’s funny so give me a break and be thankful I don’t start an actual Cheese Spa + Hooters mashup franchise.
Big bucks, big bucks no whammies…..and back to my post.
Chispa is based out of Bellingham,WA with a shop opening up in historic Fairhaven. Currently they have a temporary setup in the local mall until the construction is complete. Apparently they have a complete inventory housed in some undisclosed Area 51 warehouse in the Fountain District I hear. The store has exclusive dealerships for a variety of personal transportation devices, most of which are green, including my beloved Segways. They recently acquired a Vespa dealership and also carry several other lines: Schwinn, eGo, CobraPowerSports and others.
If you’re in the market for saving gas and having fun this summer I know they’ve got electric scooters starting at about $1000 all the way up to….well all the way up. I think you can pimp out at Segway to something like $8000+ with all the accessories. They also carry a few gas models that I’m sure are not only street legal but probably go faster than 40mph.
But what you really really want, is a Segway. Seriously, get the off-road model and I might let you ride with me.
