So I was in Bellingham earlier today and it had been snowing in Lynden. On my way back this evening I was in a bit of a mood so I decided to take the back roads home and push the Mercedes to see how well it handled in the slush and snow.
I lost traction a few times at high speed and I have to say the sporty little devil handled pretty well. Apparently I have a bunch of standard features, including:
- All-Speed Traction Control Controlled By ABS and Engine Management
- Electronic Stability Program (ESP(R)) Vehicle Stability Control System Operated Via Engine Power Reduction, Traction Control and ABS Measures Steering Wheel Angle/Direction, Yaw Rate, Wheel Speed and Lateral Acceleration
- Brake Assist Electronic Brake Assistance
- Front Power 345-mm X 30-mm Ventilated Disc and Rear Power 290-mm X 10-mm Solid Disc Brakes
- 4-Wheel Anti-Lock Brakes
It all sounds quite sophisticated, granted there was no black ice anywhere to really put it through the paces, but I’m sure I’ll get plenty of opportunities soon enough. The ESP kicks in automatically as my yaw rate was at times… impressive.
Sufficed to say, both me and the car made it home in one piece. Woohoo.

Posted by Al Castle in : PRWeb, Insider, Castle, Fashion, Friends , add a commentMy first week after leaving PRWeb / Vocus, I spent lazily around the house. Often sitting at my computer in something skimpy. My daily delight was when Lauren was working, so I could instant message her, “NO PANTS”. To which she’d usually reply, “Me Either”. She’s pretty cool.
This past week due to the recent plague outbreak I haven’t gone anywhere. It’s important to note that I haven’t been bed-ridden. Yesterday I had to take my pets to the vet, it was as I got dressed that I realized this is the first time in a week I’ve been forced to wear pants.
That’s right, a whole week without having to wear and not wearing pants. I consider it a small victory for all good looking people who are forced to wear pants by our oppressive taboo-ridden culture.
Plague Ravages The Castle December 20, 2007

My whole family has been sick this season, moving from one cold to another. We’re all just getting over a horrible coughing and stuffy nose cold that’s been lasting weeks. Now we’re apparently moving onto the Norwalk virus (yea!).
It’s not just the humans either. I took my dogs to the vet today because even they’re coughing. I went on a trip recently and had to put them in kennel for about week. Other peoples grubby dogs gave mine kennel cough.
My cats are so far the only members of the Castle Clan which seem to be in good health. Although Tuesday, the feline master of evil, is freaking senile and obese and needs to be put down, but that’s old age.
I’m tired of always being sick. There must be something wrong with my lifestyle, but I can’t quite put my finger on it. I eat poorly, drink, smoke, have high stress, and poor sleep. It must be something in the air.
Not Always Right December 19, 2007

One of my first jobs when I was 16, was working as seasonal Xmas help at Fred Meyers, in the housewares department. I stocked, got carts, and helped customers find things, the usual. I can’t recall specifically anything other than hating the endless stupid questions. Customers who became irate and irrational the more they were exposed to someone not.
It’s taken many years, but I’ve finally removed myself from directly interacting with customers entirely. Instead I realize what those customers do for a living - they’re in marketing. Sigh.
Not always right gets added to the blogroll. Enjoy.

Agony On The Big Screen December 17, 2007
Posted by Al Castle in : gnash-teeth, TimeWaster, Castle , 4commentsI just finished watching the third and most painful installment of Pirates of the Caribbean. It was beyond horrible, too awful to convey and something I hope none of you have to endure. I would have rather watched The English Patient, in Portuguese, with German subtitles and in reverse.
I actually liked the first movie, the second had a few funny moments, but still a convoluted plot. This one must have been cursed with ancient trailer-park magick, distorting time itself into a single, long, strung-out moment of intense stupidity.
If I thought it would help, I’d rinse my eyes with bleach and lemon pledge. If only I could cauterize the wound in my brain. I fear to sleep now, for the dreams that may come unbidden and further mutilate my mind with scenes from that aquatic snuff film. For those of faith, pray for me that this vile will be expunged from my soul.
